SOCIAL MEDIA LOW-DOWN: PART TWO - WHAT IS INSTAGRAM?

Part two of our social media series is on the increasingly popular Instagram.

Instagram first hit our iphones in 2010 and has an estimated five million Australian users. Instagram is primarily used by 18-29-year-olds.

It is a platform where users post images and short videos, mostly photos. The pictures and videos are the perfectly crafted visuals of everyday life.

“Instagram is a fun and quirky way to share your life with friends through a series of pictures.” Via Instagram website.

The Instagram app has built-in features such as filters to ensure everyone is looking their best.

Accompanying the posts are short messages or descriptions that usually consist of a few inspirational hashtags - #theinstagramlowdown.

Posts can be shared publically or privately among friends. The app also allows for posting on multiple platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.

Businesses successfully use Instagram to display their latest products or to remind the consumer that they exist and are very cool. Destinations use the app very well as they can craft location shots that highlight the very best features.
